Global Chemical Process Expert

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Federal-Mogul's Sealing and Gaskets business is hiring a Global Chemical Process Expert for Coatings & Adhesives. The position is primarily responsible for providing Phosphate and adhesive coating process expertise to the manufacturing plants and for the development and mentoring of the local plant engineering talents across the globe at FM Sealing Plants. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is essential to your success at Federal-Mogul.  The ideal candidate would be a degreed Chemical Engineering professional with extensive experience in manufacturing and who is a subject matter expert on metal treatment/coating processes and has the ablity to travel extensively. RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as chemical, coating and data analyst expert providing Phosphate and adhesive coating process expertise to the FM manufacturing plants. Act as consultant to internal customers, initiating and or managing projects and presenting results/ making recommendation to the customer. Participate in the development and mentoring of the local plant engineering talents across the Globe at FM Sealing Plants and will work with various areas in the organization to Develop and/or drive measurable improvements of processes, standards, policies, procedures.  Provide insight on the present requirements and direct future needs regarding materials or materials processes; and support customer engineering/manufacturing needs including process trouble shooting, process development and design. Organize and conduct analytical and/or physical tests on phosphate / chemical / adhesive / elastomeric materials so as to provide robust manufacturing solutions to customers, and support the manufacturing plants. Anticipate and support customer requirements and resolve customer complaints by explaining analytical reports developing, managing and analyzing DOE, analyzing / correlating manufacturing (raw materials, process, quality, performance) data etc.  Work with plant engineers, global core teams and outside partners such as chemical suppliers, equipment manufacturers and material suppliers (ideally with an established network of such contacts developed over their experience in the Rubber Molding / Metal Treatment Industry).  Responsible for equipment purchases and financial justification for projects: will research vendors,prepare equipment specifications, make final vendor selection, obtain approvals at supplier and FM facilities, and finally coordinate installations with production facility and suppliers. Become familiar with product costing processes. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor of Science degree with Engineering concentration. Doctorate preferred. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of Industrialexperience in the Rubber/Metal Coating manufacturing industry with expert knowledge on the fundamentals of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, physical chemistry and physics.  Extensive experience in Metal Treatment - specifically metal cleaning,  Phosphate or Silane treatment and adhesive application, including their effect on Rubber Molding. HANDS ON experience utilizing a disciplined Engineering approach/tools such as: 8D, statistics, DOE and other analysis methods to solve manufacturing problems on the floor - will play a key part in the process improvement and variability reduction of all materials and processes. Experience with manufacturing equipment, tooling, production management, quality systems, various manufacturing technologies (stamping, molding, coating, cleaning, asembly, automation, tooling) and in-depth experience in Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing. Proven track record of coordinating a project from concept to completion (working with product engineering, manufacturing, materials development, advanced product development and sales).
